So how far would you go to make your day to day purchases easier?

If you use (or have used) your phone to make payments at various places, you are utilizing a technology known as Proximity Mobil Payments. There is no doubt about it that this technology has made life easier for many people as we no longer have to have a bulky wallet taking up space in our pockets or bags. Since most everyone has a phone with them, why not just use that as the preferred payment method? But what if there was another way, a simpler way? One where you would not even need to have your phone with you?

Well, this has been a reality for a while know but it just hasn’t hit the mainstream yet – microchips that get implanted just under the skin can now be loaded and controlled with a simple App that allows you to do everything from entering your payment details to access codes that you can use to get into your office. Yes, this is very much the same technology that pet owners can use to “chip” their pet (so if they get lost, they can be reunited with their owners) but it has now found another use for presumably even more people. Since it is only able to be scanned and/or altered with another phone or App almost directly on top of it and there is no way it can be scanned or read from afar – it is arguably safer and more secure than a credit card.

The biggest pushback from folks so far is that it is invasive, and while yes, this may be true – think about how many people get their ears pierced or have other body modifications done. There are even a few Scandinavian companies that require their employees to be chipped so they may securely access their worksites without risk of lost access cards and keys. Is it really hard to imagine a world where this is the norm?

A day may come in the not so distant future where all this becomes the standard. Of course, you will need to find places that accept electronic payments in the first place and there are entire cultures (looking at you Germany) that still shun cards even in this day and age. While this is changing, they are definitely not there just yet so it obviously only applies to those who are in areas that readily accept cards and mobile payments. Question is, even in forward thinking areas, how far are you willing to go?
